There's no telling what we need to use our vehicles for sometimes. If I was called on to transport some things for a friend who was moving house to a new house, I would stuff as many items as I possibly could into the back seat of my car before I give up. I would wish I had a trailer too, so that any time I am hauling any loads it would be a much easier job.
If you don't know how to build a trailer from scratch, you can always assemble one from a commercially available kit these are kits you buy with all of the parts and accessories you need to build a trailer they also include the instructions needed. Building your own load-hauler won't save you very much money or time, but you'll be much richer for the experience it affords you.
To make the metal frame, you can either salvage an old steel bed-frame from a pickup truck. Otherwise, you will need a large quantity of angle iron to form the bed of your project. A decent-sized trailer measures approximately 8' long x 4' wide. Weld your pieces in place to form the frame. Don not forget to add support pieces so that heavy loads can be carried without worry.
The axle for this project has to be centered to the frame in order for equilibrium and stability to be present. To ensure that it is in line with the center of the frame, check if there is equal distance between the tires and hitch. The towing tongue also has to be centered toward your craft's center of gravity. Weld all joints together securely.
Next, the spring assembly is attached to the spring hangers, before the axle and wheel assembly are attached. The tires and wheels are the next to go on. Use sheet metal as the fenders which can be welded on to the frame and reinforced with angle iron. This angle iron can also serve as mounting points. At this point, you can also attach more angle iron, covered with sheet metal to be used as rails.
To build the floor, cut plywood sheets to the required dimensions and screw them to the frame. Fasten them in place with bolts, with washers between the wood and bolts before finishing off with a lock washer and carriage nut. Tighten all bolts with a pneumatic wrench.
