Because they have fewer clients, they can assign account representatives and couriers that will get more familiar with every operation that they provide service to. This can often result in a more personal experience, and gives the courier more information which helps them to solve any problems which may crop up for their clients logistically.
Prices are often different between these two types of companies, but generally equalize over the long term. What this means is that while certain types of services can be cheaper with smaller companies, like local shipping, other services might be more affordable, from the larger carriers, such as storage. In the end, making a decision about which type of courier your company should be doing business with comes down to the preferences of you and your management team, and the scope of your shipping operations.
